PBs Smashed at ESSA Divisional Swimming Championships

Published by St Mary's Calne on Tuesday 7th of October 2025

On Wednesday 24 September, the St Mary's Calne Swim Team competed in the annual ESSA Secondary Team Championships, held at Millfield for the South West Division.

With some of the fastest young athletes in Great Britain poolside, the level of competition was exceptionally high – but that’s exactly what makes this event such a valuable experience. The team arrived with determination, enthusiasm and a healthy dose of nervous energy, ready to give their very best.

Their focus on pushing for new personal bests paid off, with 18 of the 22 girls setting new PBs. School records were also broken by Annabelle (LV) in the 50m backstroke (32.21), and by Flo B (UV), who impressed with new records in both the 50m butterfly (29.74) and the 50m freestyle (27.85).

Our team has learnt that every swim is an opportunity to learn, grow and celebrate progress, no matter the result of the scoreboard. They each embraced the true spirit of Calne - passion, perseverance and positivity.

A huge well done to all – from your very proud swim coach.
