The Abbey team represents UK at European Youth Parliament in Ukraine

Published on isbi School News dated Monday 8th of November 2010

Following their victory in the national European Youth Parliament session held at Durham University in September, the Abbey team represented the UK at the 65th International Session in L'viv, Ukraine during October half term.

The girls thoroughly enjoyed their week working with more than 250 students from 32 European countries and all agreed that it was a once-in-a-lifetime experience. There were more light-hearted moments such as a Eurovision Song Contest (the UK team scored 8 points from our 'new best friends' the Latvian delegation saving us the ignominy of 'nul points'!) and a Euro-Village event with opportunities to sample food at each country's stand, but there was also a lot of hard work for the delegates.

During the week, each Committee (comprising 12 15 students from different countries) worked on a specific topic and devised a resolution. These were then debated during the final two days of 'General Assembly'. Any resolutions that passed will be forwarded on to the European Parliament for consideration.

Each Abbey student participated very actively in her assigned committee and took a prominent role in the Assembly session.
