CIRDIC: A Heartfelt Thank You!
Published by Shiplake College on Friday 7th of November 2025
We were truly moved by the incredible generosity shown by pupils, parents, and staff in response to our Harvest Collection appeal in support of the Churches in Reading Drop-In Centre for the Homeless (CIRDIC).
From single tins of soup to full bags of food and toiletries, pupils from across the College came together to make a meaningful contribution. CIRDIC provides vital support to those experiencing homelessness in our community, offering not only hot meals but also access to showers, clean clothing, toiletries, phone use, and specialist assistance.
In the lead-up to half-term, each House was invited to donate specific items:
- Lower School: Long life milk or rice
- Year 9: Tinned vegetables or fruit
- Year 10: Tomato ketchup or mayonnaise
- Year 11: Socks or tinned custard
- Sixth Form Day: Tinned chicken or vegetable soup
- College Boarders: Sugar or washing-up liquid
- Gilson Boarders: Instant coffee or spray deodorant
Thanks to everyone who donated so generously. We’re proud to continue our long-standing partnership with CIRDIC. Special thanks go to our Chapel Wardens for helping deliver the donations, and to Rev Becky Medlicott for coordinating the collection.
