Physics in Action: A Day of Discovery for Lower Sixth

Published by Eltham College on Friday 28th of November 2025

A group of 41 Lower Sixth physics students headed to the Emmanuel Centre near Westminster for an inspiring day of talks from five leading physicists and expert science communicators as they shared their passion and interest across an exciting range of topics.

Students learned how unexpected accidents can lead to breakthroughs in studying innovative materials, explored the science behind space weather and its link to the aurora, and even ventured into the depths of the ocean with Greg Foot. They delved into the world of particle physics with Kate Shaw before finishing with a fascinating insight into the design of rollercoasters with the crossing of physics, engineering, and human psychology.
