Bootham Student Receives National Recognition for Outstanding A Level Achievement

Recent Bootham School leaver Freddie has been recognised as one of the highest-scoring Chemistry students in the country, after achieving one of the top marks nationwide in OCR A Level Chemistry.

As a result of this exceptional performance, Freddie was invited to Salters’ Annual Award Ceremony in London last week, where he was formally presented with his award and welcomed into the prestigious Salters’ Alumni Network.

Freddie’s success carries particular significance for the Bootham community, as it follows in the footsteps of his brother, Charlie, who achieved the same national award in 2023 – an extraordinary double accomplishment for the family.

Having completed his time at Bootham this summer, Freddie leaves behind an exceptional academic record, achieving five A* grades in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics and his EPQ. He has now progressed to Newcastle University, where he has begun studying Dentistry.

Freddie’s achievement comes during a period of strong academic recognition for Bootham. We have been recently named one of the Top 10 Independent Secondary Schools in the North in The Sunday Times Parent Power Schools Guide 2026, reflecting consistently high academic performance across the school.

Bootham is incredibly proud of Freddie’s national success and wishes him the very best as he embarks on his university studies.
