Celebrating 147 years!

Happy birthday to Hallfield School
On 21 January 2026, Hallfield School celebrates its 147th anniversary. For nearly a century and a half, the school has played a pivotal role in shaping the lives of young people in Edgbaston and far beyond.
Founded in 1879 as Kingsland House School by Mr Nowers and Mr Pughe, the school was renamed Edgbaston High School for Boys just one year later. Hallfield began humbly, welcoming 19 boys in its first term, with a further dozen joining in June and September — the early foundations of a school that has continued to grow, evolve, and flourish ever since.
Fast forward to today and you’ll find a thriving co-educational school that has adapted to the changing needs of society while remaining true to its core mission: to provide an exceptional, well-rounded education that champions creativity, sport and leadership alongside academic success.
Building an even better Hallfield
As we had towards our landmark 150-year anniversary in 2029, we have ambitious plans to build an even better Hallfield with Project 150. This marks a new and exciting era. If you’d like to be part of our journey and help us create a lasting legacy, visit our Project 150 page.
We love to hear from Old Hallfieldians so if you’d like to share your memories or come back for a school tour, contact Kat de Polo, Alumni and Development Officer on kdepolo@hallfieldschool.co.uk
