Guiding the Next Generation of Boys and Girls!

Published by The Beacon School on Friday 23rd of January 2026

The Beacon, founded in 1933 as an independent school for boys, is thrilled to announce an exciting new chapter in the history of the school. From 2027 and beyond, The Beacon is delighted to welcome girls to its pupil community, at the usual entry points of Reception, Year 3 and Year 7. Little Beacons Nursery will continue to register boys and girls from September 2026.

From First Steps to Becoming What’s Next.

The Beacon has a formidable reputation as one of the country’s leading prep schools, renowned for academic excellence, abundant opportunities and teaching expertise which identifies and develops each individual’s potential. These qualities transcend any identity linked to its single-sex status.

As the societal and educational world evolves, The Beacon strives to evolve too, nurturing confident, curious learners and preparing any child for what’s now, what’s next and wherever life may take them. The school is proud to foster an inclusive, family atmosphere and strong community.

This forward-thinking co-educational transition is fully endorsed by Headmaster Nick Baker, the Senior Management Team, Governing Body and colleagues, with a view to maintaining the school’s values, expectations and high standards that The Beacon prides itself upon.

Achieve Academically. Prosper Personally.

It is firmly believed that the opportunities, facilities and ethos of the school today are as relevant to girls as they are to boys, and this inclusive development will therefore enhance and enrich the educational experience of all Beacon pupils during their journey at the school and in the future after Beacon Life.

Headmaster Nick Baker says, “The Beacon is a truly remarkable school in every sense and it is entirely appropriate and exciting that we embark on a co-educational structure going forward. The opportunities in the classroom, sports field, theatre, music school, art room, workshop and kitchen will enhance the experiences of all pupils in the coming years and reaffirm our status as one of the country’s leading prep schools. Bring on the girls!”

Seeking School Admissions?

The Beacon is welcoming prospective families seeking school admissions for their son or daughter to a whole school Open Morning on Friday 6th March, 9:30am-12pm.

The Headmaster will commence with an informative talk, visitors will then enjoy a tour of the school hosted by Upper School pupils and have the opportunities to meet teachers across the school. Book a place: beaconschool.co.uk
