Children's Author and former pupil visits St. Mary's School

Published on isbi School News dated Thursday 22nd of November 2012

St. Mary's School in Gerrards Cross welcomed back one of its former pupils this week children's author, Fiona Dunbar. She has written several books, including the popular Lulu Baker novels (which were made into the 'Jinx' television series for the BBC), the Silk Sisters trilogy and most recently the Kitty Slade set of 4 books about a girl who can see ghosts.

Fiona gave a series of workshops for girls from Years 5 to 8 on creative writing, which the girls found very inspiring. She also had lunch with some of the Sixth Form students, who are interested in journalism and creative writing, and had a tour of the school. Some parts of St. Mary's have not changed but Fiona was surprised by all the new facilities which have been added to the school since she left, including the new Sports Hall, the Art Studio and the Sixth Form Centre.
