Sixth Form students from Hurst College spent a day on-site with [Dell Technologies]Dell Technologies in London, in a visit that marked the first time Dell has delivered an experience of this kind. The opportunity gave students direct exposure to careers in the technology sector and to the real-world application of artificial intelligence (AI).

After being warmly welcomed by teams from Dell and Snapdragon, the students joined series of discussions, with a focus on careers in technology alongside the wider impact of AI on the world of work. Students explored how AI is affecting jobs across a range of sectors, as well as the skills employers are now seeking, and the various routes into careers within the technology industry. Further sessions examined AI and sustainability, with students considering the impact of technology on the planet, including how many PCs are produced each year and the percentage of electronic waste recycled annually. A separate discussion provided insight into senior leadership, and how careers in the technology sector can develop over time.

A highlight of the visit was that the group had hands-on time with Snapdragon powered devices that the College will be purchasing. Students took part in a session comparing and contrasting different types of processors, helping them understand the rationale behind the development of Snapdragon processors. This allowed them to explore the technology in detail, ask questions directly to the experts, and deepen their understanding of Computer Science. The day concluded with a wrap-up session, including a Kahoot quiz, which reinforced the key takeaways from across their time with Dell.

The visit supported Hurst’s commitment to providing students with meaningful access to industry expertise and the latest technology, helping them to make informed choices as they consider their future study and career pathways. The College is grateful to the Dell and Snapdragon teams for hosting such an incredible day for our students.
