Sports Scholars’ inspired by University of Bath’s Sports Training Village

Published by St Mary's Calne on Thursday 26th of February 2026

Our Sports Scholars enjoyed an inspiring visit to the Sports Training Village at the University of Bath. The day provided a fantastic opportunity for students to experience high-performance sport within an elite university sports environment.

During the visit, students took part in a series of practical sessions focused on developing hand-eye coordination, reaction speed and agility. They also completed a range of sports performance tests, including sprint testing using professional speed gates, jump assessments on specialist jump mats, and other measures designed to analyse power, speed and athletic potential. It was a valuable insight into how athletes monitor and track their physical development at the highest level.

A highlight of the trip was a question-and-answer session with Team Bath netball player Charlotte Jennings-Evans. Charlotte spoke openly about her sporting journey, the challenges she has faced, and the resilience required to succeed in elite sport. Her reflections and motivational advice reinforced the importance of dedication, mindset and consistency.

The visit was both educational and inspiring and we look forward to seeing our scholars apply their learning into their sports.
