Shared Education History Trip:
Days 3 & 4
On the third morning of our trip the group travelled to the documentation centre at Hitler's former mountain retreat near Berchtesgaden. Here they toured the Nazi's underground tunnel network. From here, they travelled to the Berchtesgaden salt mine which has been in operation since 1517. The group travelled deep into the mountain via train (and slides!) to see how this valuable commodity has been produced. Then it was off to see the sites of the beautiful Austrian city of Salzburg, before returning to Munich for dinner at the Hard Rock Cafe to finish off another busy day.
Day 4: Our last day saw the group up early again to check out and visit the Allianz Arena, home of FC Bayern Munich, for a guided tour. With the tour over, and lots of Euro spent in the club shop, we returned to the city centre to visit the NS documentation centre, a museum highlighting the crimes of the Nazi regime in the Munich area. They then enjoyed lunch and an afternoon's shopping in the bustling city centre.
This group has been a credit to the school and their parents in terms of their behaviour on the trip.
Thanks to the teachers, Mr Kerr and Mrs Shaw, along with their colleagues from St Patrick’s Academy, for organising this fantastic trip.
Auf Wiedersehen!
