Armed Forces Covenant Signed to Support Service Families

St Columba’s is pleased to announce that we have formally signed the Armed Forces Covenant, pledging our commitment and support to our Armed Forces personnel and their families.
What is the Armed Forces Covenant?
The Covenant is a promise to acknowledge and support those who are serving or have served in our Armed Forces, and their families, recognising the sacrifices that they have made and their unique obligations.
At the heart of the Covenant, organisations commit to two key principles:
- Those who serve in the Armed Forces, whether Regular or Reserve, those who have served in the past, and their families, should face no disadvantage compared to other citizens
- In certain circumstances special consideration may be appropriate, especially for the injured and bereaved.
Our pledge
At St Columba’s we will implement the Covenant by supporting children of service families, recognising that they often face disadvantages compared to non-service children due to often having a more mobile lifestyle. We are committed to mitigating the impacts of military life and offering special provision as required.
We also commit to being a forces friendly employer of the Armed Forces community. With over 12,400 organisations having signed the Covenant across the UK, we are proud to have joined this community, collectively providing support and opportunities to those who have served our country.
Our Rector, Mrs Reilly, remarked, “We are incredibly proud to have signed this Covenant, ensuring that service families are supported, treated fairly and are given opportunities within our school community. We look forward to building on this commitment in the coming years.”
Having made this pledge and qualified for the Bronze Award, we are already working towards our Silver status to strengthen our commitment to our Armed Forces personnel and their families.
