Third Year pupils conquer the South Downs

Published by Tonbridge School on Monday 20th of April 2026

Over the Easter break pupils in the Third Year completed the qualifying expedition for their Silver Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.

The three-day expedition required them to navigate across the South Downs, beginning in Partridge Green via Steyning, and concluded in Pyecombe.

A notable point of the expedition was the ascent to Devil’s Dyke which consists of the UK’s longest, deepest, and widest dry valley, formed by glacial erosion in the Ice Age.

The completion of the expedition marks an important stage in the participants’ progress towards achieving their Silver Duke of Edinburgh’s Award and we wish them luck as they complete the remaining components of their award over the next term.
