Action-Packed Activities Week!
Published by St James Senior Boys' School on Monday 27th of April 2026
Last week students enjoyed an unforgettable Activities Week, packed with adventure, challenges and opportunities to develop new skills beyond the classroom.
Year 7 students had a fantastic time on their residential trip to Derbyshire, where they enjoyed a range of outdoor activities, including canoeing and ziplining, alongside a variety of team-building challenges. The trip provided an excellent opportunity for students to develop new skills, build confidence and strengthen their relationships.
Year 8 students travelled to Greece, immersing themselves in its rich history and culture. Starting in Athens, they explored the Acropolis and Parthenon, as well as the Acropolis Museum, before continuing to Epidaurus and Mycenae, including the Grave of Agamemnon. A highlight was Olympia, the birthplace of the Olympic Games, where the boys took part in their own races and wore traditional olive wreaths.
Meanwhile, Year 9 pupils embarked on the 120km Camino de Santiago pilgrimage. This journey combines physical challenge with reflection and personal growth and is a key part of the St James experience – recently recognised with the Independent Schools ‘School Trip of the Year’ award. The first days were full of energy, with the boys completing an impressive 24km on Day 2. As the journey continued, they enjoyed a slightly gentler pace, walking 14km across Days 3 and 4 while taking in beautiful surroundings and encountering local wildlife.
Year 10 travelled to Italy, where they explored the cultural city of Florence. The trip offered a rich blend of art, history and architecture, giving pupils the opportunity to experience first-hand the legacy of the Renaissance.
Activities Week has once again been a fantastic highlight of the academic year! Across all year groups, students have shown great enthusiasm, resilience and a willingness to try new things.
