A World of Possibilities: Careers Fair Highlights by Saranya, Year 7
One of the biggest highlights of the Careers Fair was getting to speak directly to professionals and hearing what their jobs are actually like. It felt exciting to walk around the hall and choose which stalls to visit, almost like exploring different possible futures. I also enjoyed collecting leaflets, trying small activities at the stands, and hearing stories about how people got into their careers. It made the whole idea of “the future” feel more real and less scary.
At the Careers Fair, I spoke to a wide range of organisations, which helped me understand how many different paths there are. One of the first stalls I visited was Cardiff College where they explained different course options and how GCSE choices can link to future careers. I also spoke to a catering company – Holroyd Howe, who talked about what it’s like to work in hospitality and how creative the job can be. Another interesting conversation I had was with a representative from EasyJet, who explained the different roles within an airline; and I also visited a dental stall,?where they showed the equipment they use and explained their different roles. The doctors I spoke to talked about the long training process but also how rewarding the job is. My friends and I also enjoyed speaking to the police officers, who explained how teamwork and communication are essential in their job. Technological stalls like the Microsoft one was one of the most exciting because they talked about careers in technology, coding, and AI, which showed me how important digital skills have become. I also explored stalls about study options and the military, which gave me?a completely different perspective on discipline, training, and career progression.
I learned that there are far more career paths than I realised, and many of them don’t follow a straight line. I also understood how important skills like communication, problem?solving, and confidence are, no matter what job you choose. The fair helped me understand that careers are not just about choosing a job — they’re about discovering what you enjoy and what you’re good at.
This experience was very different from a normal lesson because instead of sitting at a desk, we were moving around, asking questions, and having real conversations. It felt more like an event than a lesson, and we had the freedom to choose what we wanted to explore. Instead of learning from a textbook or a teacher, we were learning from people who actually work in those careers every day.
One interesting detail for me was how enthusiastic the speakers were — they genuinely wanted us to understand their jobs and were happy to answer questions. I also found it interesting how different each stall looked: some had leaflets, posters, or equipment for display. My friends especially liked the interactive activities, like the EasyJet stall where there was a?fun spin the wheel, where you could win prizes.
Thank you so much to Mrs Wittingham who organised it.
