Chigwell Linguists Achieve National Recognition in Prestigious Competitions

This term has seen outstanding success for students in Modern Foreign Languages, with several pupils earning national recognition in highly competitive academic contests.

Among the highlights is Thomas (Year 9 / Removes), who received a Highly Commended award in the University of Oxford Flash Fiction Competition. The competition challenged students to produce an original and imaginative 100-word story in German, showcasing both linguistic precision and creative flair.

In addition, students achieved exceptional results in the Anthea Bell Prize for Young Translators, run by The Queen’s College, University of Oxford. This year, the competition attracted more than 25,000 entries from across the UK, all judged by professional literary translators and Oxford University academics.

The following students were recognised with Highly Commended awards:

· Conor (Year 7) – German

· Davide (Year 8) – Italian

· Krish (Year 10) – Spanish

· Rosalie (Lower Sixth) – French

These accolades represent a significant achievement, reflecting not only the students’ linguistic ability but also their enthusiasm, creativity and commitment to excellence.
