We are delighted to celebrate the achievements of the 2026 Leavers who, as a year group, have achieved an impressive set of results, with 86% receiving an offer from their first-choice UK university and 100% gaining offers from their first or second choice. More than 65% of grades were at A*-A , 39% of students received all A*-A, and a 100% pass rate was achieved.
Head of St Mary’s Calne, Mrs Anne Wakefield, commented:
‘We are so proud of our 2026 Upper Sixth students who have achieved exceptional results with 90% of grades at A*-B, and almost a third of all grades (29%) at A*. They worked incredibly hard and their results are testament to the dedication, passion for learning and tenacity that have been hallmark qualities of this cohort of students. They have embraced every opportunity during their time at St Mary’s and demonstrated in true spirit that You Can at Calne.’
Our 2026 Head Girl, Ada R, has successfully secured her place at Durham University to read history while Deputy Head Girls, Allison L and Olivia M, will be heading to University College London (UCL) to read psychology and Newcastle University to read politics and international relations, respectively. Congratulations to all three on their impressive achievements and for serving the school community with such enthusiasm and care during their Head Girls’ Team tenure.
Medicine continues to be a strong university choice for St Mary’s Calne students. Congratulations to Florence OS and Millie O who both secured their first-choice places to read Medicine at UCL and University of Liverpool respectively.
Congratulations also to two of our artists who are amongst the highest achievers in the country for fine art, as notified by Cambridge OCR.
STEM degrees are continuing to be popular, with students securing places to read biochemistry (two pupils) and molecular bioengineering at Imperial College, pharmacology at Queen Mary University of London, mathematics at the University of Chicago and zoology at the University of Bristol.
Head of Sixth Form, Mrs Lucy Weeden, said: ‘We are very proud of our students’ academic successes, but also the wide range of pathways they are taking for life after Calne, from STEM degrees to the creative arts. Our pupils leave Sixth Form as confident, well-rounded young people ready to embrace new opportunities and make their mark on the world.’
This year’s destinations include Oxford, St Andrews, UCL, Durham, Exeter, Edinburgh, LSE, Imperial, King’s College London as well as ESCP France and US universities: the University of Chicago, Case Western Reserve University, Ohio, and Tufts University, Boston.
The range of courses our Class of 2026 have chosen to pursue is as varied as it is impressive, spanning classics, medicine, zoology, fine art, history, economics, politics and international relations, PPE and many more.
Mrs Anne Wakefield said:
‘We are incredibly proud to see each pupil following their own interests and passions. It is a wonderful reflection of the Calne spirit. It is a place where you are encouraged to be bold, to be yourself and, with the support of those around you, to have the confidence to pursue your ambitions and find your own path.’
