Pupils Celebrate Impressive GCSE Results

The St Mary’s Calne school community are today celebrating the achievements of its UV (Year 11) pupils, whose hard work and determination have delivered an outstanding set of GCSE results – a wonderful reminder that ‘you can at Calne’.
Across the year group, 56% of GCSEs taken were awarded grade 8 or 9, with over a third (31%) achieving the top grade of 9.
In total, an impressive 79% of all grades were 9-7, equivalent to A*-A in the previous grading system, and 37% of pupils achieved at least nine grades at 9-7.
Deputy Head Academic, Mr Michael Smyth, commented:
‘We are delighted with these excellent GCSE results. They are a reflection of the ambition of our wonderful pupils and the expert guidance and encouragement provided by St Mary’s teachers. I was particularly impressed by the way each girl approached her studies, especially during the Summer Term, showing focus, dedication and good cheer in equal measure. They have truly demonstrated what it means at St Mary’s Calne to “win your own race”!’
The excellent grades achieved by our pupils not only demonstrate impressive academic progress but also reflect the strength of the teaching and pastoral care they receive throughout their time at St Mary’s. With inspirational teaching, superb facilities and the nurturing environment of an all-girls’ school, St Mary’s Calne gives pupils the encouragement, confidence and opportunities to flourish, fulfil their potential and achieve their very best.
Head, Mrs Anne Wakefield, shared her praise:
‘A huge congratulations to our remarkable Year 11 pupils. We are delighted to celebrate all that you have achieved and the qualities you have shown along the way. We are immensely proud of each and every one of you, and look forward to seeing you continue to grow and thrive as you take the next step in your journey with us in the St Mary’s Calne Sixth Form.’
