Published by King's Ely Senior School on Friday 21st of August 2026

KING’S Ely students are celebrating a strong set of GCSE results, with over a quarter of all grades achieved being equivalent to the old A*.

This year, 10% of GCSE results at King’s Ely Senior are Grade 9, with 26% at Grade 9-8, 45% at Grade 9-7, 66% Grade 9-6, and 85% Grade 9-5. 97% of pupils achieved at least five Grades 9-4.

Two students achieved at least eight Grade 9s each, with a further seven pupils achieving at least five Grade 9s. More than a quarter of this year’s cohort achieved at least a Grade 7 in eight of their subjects, with virtually all students achieving a pass or better in Maths and English Language.

These results not only reflect our students’ hard work and determination, but also their teachers’ and mentors’ expertise and commitment for them to succeed.

Mrs Jane Thomas, Head of King’s Ely Senior and Vice Principal of King’s Ely, said: “GCSE Results Day marks an important milestone in every young person’s educational journey, and we are immensely proud of all our pupils. Behind every result lies countless hours of hard work and commitment from both pupils and their teachers. Many have achieved outcomes that reflect their dedication and determination, while also making significant contributions to the wider life of the school. GCSE courses bring both challenges and opportunities; some subjects will have pushed pupils beyond their comfort zones, while others will have sparked passions and interests that they will continue to explore and develop as they embark on the next stage of their education. We congratulate every pupil on their achievements and look forward to supporting them as they take their next steps with confidence and ambition.”

As is reflective of an all-round, enriched education, King’s Ely pupils have studied and achieved in a wide variety of GCSE subjects. More than one third of all grades in the following subjects were at least a Grade 8 – Biology, Chemistry, Physics, History, Fine Art, Textiles, Chinese, Drama, 3D Design, Latin, Music, and Religious Studies.

Eighteen pupils in Year 10 also completed the Higher Project Qualification alongside studying for their GCSEs, all achieving A* or A. Six pupils completed the Extended Project Qualification, equivalent to half an A-Level, and all achieved A* grades, which is particularly impressive.

Ian achieved ten Grade 9s and one Grade 8. She will be studying Maths, Biology, Chemistry, and French at A-Level. Ianthe, who joined King’s Ely Prep in Year 8, said: “I am really excited and proud of my results. I am relieved too! I feel like I worked very hard and that

the hard work has paid off. My teachers have all been so supportive, not just academically and with things like revision, but by supporting me emotionally too.”

Danny, who joined King’s Ely Prep in Year 3, achieved all Grades 9-8. He is studying Maths, Biology, Chemistry, and Fine Art at A-Level, and like the majority of this year’s cohort, is staying at King’s Ely for Sixth Form. He said: “I woke up so early as I was really nervous. I did not get much sleep, but I was so happy when I saw my results! I am really looking forward to Sixth Form. I have a good group of friends, the environment at King’s is so nice, there are so many co-curricular opportunities, and the Art Department is incredible!”

Henry achieved all Grades 9-6. He joined King’s Ely Prep in Year 6 and is staying at King’s Ely to study French, Maths, History, and Economics at A-Level. He said: “I am happy with my results. I did not check them online; I waited until I got to school and I was so relieved when I opened them and saw what they were. My teachers know me as an individual here. I am looking forward to this supportive style of teaching continuing in Sixth Form and continuing with the sports I really enjoy here.”

Sixteen pupils from all corners of the globe also received their results today having studied the one-year IGCSE programme at King’s Ely. The two-term intensive course sees young people studying in their non-native speaking language, and the average number of subjects taken is six. King’s Ely is delighted to report another excellent set of IGCSE grades, with an overall pass rate of 84%. More than half of all results were Grade 6 and above, with five subjects achieving a 100% pass rate. Three students achieved Grades 9-6 in all their subjects.

Mr Matthew Norbury, Director for International Students at King’s Ely, said: “These results are testimony to the students’ focused efforts and the incredible support they receive from academic and pastoral staff. These international students arrive in England for the first time ever in September and without the presence of their friends and family go on to successfully sit their IGCSEs in an education system they had never experienced before; every year I remain humbled by and proud of their integrity and achievements.”

These GCSE and IGCSE results come just a week after King’s Ely Sixth Form students celebrated achieving a stellar set of A-Level results, with 19% of grades being A*. 44% of grades were A*-A, 77% were A*-B, and 91% were A*-C. The overall pass rate was 99%.

Sixteen students achieved all A* and A grades; six of whom each attained at least three A* grades. Two pupils achieved four A* grades.

This year’s cohort are going on to study a vast and fascinating array of degrees and courses at universities and institutions across the globe - from Molecular Bioengineering and Musical Theatre to Finance and Fashion Marketing. Popular universities and

institutions this year include Durham, Exeter, Manchester, Loughborough, University College London, York, and Edinburgh. Overseas destinations include University of Hong Kong, University of Florida, and Monash University, Australia, to name just some.
