Artwork Displayed at Royal Berkshire Hospital

Published by Prior's Court School on Monday 21st of September 2026

Artwork created by young people at Prior's Court is now on display at Royal Berkshire Hospital, where a collection of photography and painting has been hung on the hospital's Respiratory Ward.

The collection brings together work produced over the past year by current students and now alumni of Prior's Court. Every piece was created during Land-based learning sessions and given for public display, giving patients, visitors and staff on the ward the chance to see the work until the end of October..

The hospital runs a changing programme of art exhibitions throughout the year, with display boards placed across its main site. The Trust points to the value of art in a hospital setting, where it can offer a calmer backdrop for patients, visitors and staff, and help build links with local communities and art organisations. The young people's collection now forms part of that programme.

It follows other recent occasions where young people at Prior's Court have exhibited their art in the community, including at City Arts Newbury and the GENerate: Student Art Exhibition at The Base in Greenham.

Sammi Yarwood, Land-based Instructor at Prior's Court, who leads on the artwork, said: "As always, I am incredibly proud of the students and the work they have produced. Seeing their work together in a mini-exhibition for the public to see is an incredible achievement - that sense of accomplishment is a massive thing for the young people and their families."

Fundraising for Prior's Court

All of the artwork is priced, as any professional artist exhibiting at the hospital would do, and the profit from any works which are sold will support fundraising at Prior's Court.

At the City Arts Newbury exhibition in December 2025, two of the four pieces were sold and, after commission, raised just over £100 towards Prior’s Court’s on-site play equipment fundraising appeal.

About the pieces up for public display

All artwork made by young people at Prior's Court that is put forward for public display is chosen by the young people themselves.

These are pieces they decided not to take back to their on-site residential homes, with families also opting not to display them at home, ensuring that the decision to exhibit respects personal choice while prioritising each young person’s sense of ownership over their work.
