Published on isbi School News dated Tuesday 9th of November 2010

Oswestry School tennis ace Mikar Fisher has had a very active and successful season.

Mikar, who is in Year 6, played in over 50 matches, winning 40 of them and taking 7 titles, including the Northern U10 Championship, the U10 Welsh National Championships, the U10 West Cheshire 69th Junior Open and the North Wales mini green and masters events at Wrexham.

Mikar is one of the six junior players from Wales who have been retained on the Lawn Tennis Association's (LTA) Aegon FutureStars Programme for a second consecutive year.

Mikar is coached by his father Andrew, a former British and Welsh national champion, who also coaches Heather Watson, the 2009 US Open girls' singles champion. He is supported by the French sports equipment manufacturers Babolat International and their team (Olivier Cartier, France and Andrew Graveson, UK).

'The journey is long and we need to keep a well rounded family approach to this,' said Mikar's father. 'Oswestry School's support will help him develop the technical and mental skills needed to follow his dreams. We are also very grateful for the support of Olivier Cartier and the Babolat team.'
