Independent Schools Of The Year – Shortlist Revealed

Published by Halliford School on Thursday 11th of August 2022

We are delighted to hear that Halliford School has been shortlisted for three awards in the Independent Schools of the Year 2022 Awards in the categories of Student Well-Being, Healthy Eating and Sporting Achievement.

The aim of the Independent Schools of the Year Awards is to highlight the excellence of the student experience in independent schools. On the evidence of the submissions, the independent school sector in Britain is demonstrating resilience and agility, while continuing to deliver a first-class educational experience to its pupils despite having to live with ever-changing levels of restrictions.

Pastoral care is a key focus at Halliford and is deeply rooted within the fabric of the School. Rated in our last inspection as outstanding, we care for our students and community incredibly well. Our warm-hearted environment is founded upon clear boundaries and a compassionate yet strict approach that places the student at the centre of all we do.

Halliford is well known for our amazing food offer at morning break and lunch, with an amazing menu rotated on a three-week cycle allowing all Hallifordians to try a wide range of new foods. Overhearing "I have to tell you about the food, it is delicious" from students hosting school tours with prospective families tells us we are doing something right, and we are proud to be shortlisted in this category for the second year running.

A large emphasis is placed on Physical Education and Sport at Halliford. Through our PE programme, we teach students about the value of a healthy lifestyle, and our programmes of study and designed schemes of work provide students with broad experiences and give access to a wide range of physical activities whilst providing lifelong skills they can use outside of school. Activity areas studied in PE include rugby, badminton, basketball, health-related fitness, handball, cross country, athletics and volleyball. We are proud of what we offer as a small school and our standard of play in competitive sport. We have seen many Old Hallifordians go on to great sporting success, from representing Team GB at the Olympics in archery, rowing and badminton to securing contracts with an array of football and rugby clubs. We punch above our weight and pride ourselves on offering alternatives that will inspire students to get involved, learn a new skill or pursue a lifelong interest.

We look forward to hearing whether we have made the final in these three categories in September.
