F1 in Schools Regional Success

Published by Bancroft's School on Thursday 1st of December 2022

Last week saw fantastic performances from Team Terrahawk and Team Neutrino in their inaugural regional final of the F1 in Schools STEM Challenge competition.
Over the last eight months a group of very enthusiastic Removes (Year 8) have designed, constructed and tested their own C02 powered F1 cars. They were put to the test against cars from other London schools over two days. At one stage, the Bancroft’s teams sat in first and second places on the leaderboard. At the end of the event, Terrahawk claimed the award for Fastest Car while Team Neutrino were awarded Star Quality (for their verbal presentation), Best Engineered Car and overall First Place. Qualification for the regional finals also means the teams are eligible to receive theirBronze CREST Awards.

Through their participation in the F1 in Schools, the teams will have used their IT skills to learn about, “physics, aerodynamics, design, manufacture, branding, graphics, sponsorship, marketing, leadership/teamwork, media skills and financial strategy.”

This is an amazing achievement for everyone involved given that they competed against some much more experienced schools who have been involved in F1 in Schools for many years. They really deserve this success and will now move on to ‘development’ class in 2023.
