Berkshire Schools Hockey Tournament

Published by Cheam School on Thursday 16th of March 2023

On Thursday before half term, the U11 girls were at the Berkshire Schools Hockey Tournament. The team were looking to right some wrongs from the IAPS Qualifier back in October and started the day strongly, winning all of their group matches comfortably. The girls topping the group meant they went into the cup group stage in the best place, however tougher challenges awaited. This test in particular came from St.Piran’s School, where the girls had to fight in an end to end contest but secured a 0-0 draw in the end. Not being too disheartened, the girls won the remainder of their group games here and scored enough goals to top the group again. This led them to a semi-final fixture against Eagle House, who they had beaten earlier in the day 3-0. The girls managed to maintain a 100% record, beating Eagle House and proceeding to the final where they faced Lambrook. Two early goals from Lambrook in the final stunned the U11s a little but they managed to pull one back quickly. They were on top towards the end of the match but couldn’t find an equaliser, meaning the match ended 2-1. That being said, these were the only 2 goals they conceded that day and by finishing 2nd, they managed to qualify for the South England Finals on 23rd March. The U11 team definitely righted their wrongs and have proved they have the capability to be the best in the county and will look to go one better in March.
