Amayra And Toby: Expanding The Boundaries Of Academic Scholarship!

Published by Wellington College on Monday 20th of March 2023

Congratulations to two of Wellington’s most promising young academics who have recently received national recognition. Amayra, who is following the IB diploma programme, and is hoping to read English Literature at Oxford, was a prize winner in the New College of Humanities essay competition. Her thesis on whether studying English Literature should be replaced by a study of Global Literature was both imaginative and full of careful research and scholarship. Toby, who is taking A-levels, had his Oxbridge credentials enhanced by his selection for Corpus Christi’s Medieval Worlds residential course this coming Easter.

As well as contributing immeasurably to the academic life of Wellington’s Sixth Form, both Toby and Amayra play a full part in the schools co-curricular programme: Amayra plays the piano, is a keen tennis player, and runs regular Junior Literature and Art History Societies, while Drama Scholar Toby has recently enjoyed a starring role in the College’s all-singing and dancing production of Legally Blonde – appropriately enough he is eying a Law career after University!
