Over 550 University Offers Plus Prestigious Degree Apprenticeships
Published by Canford School on Friday 16th of June 2023
With all applications to university and higher education now completed, we hugely congratulate the 160 Canfordians who have in total received 582 offers this year, 81% of which are to Russell Group/Sunday Times Top 12 institutions in the UK. In addition, pupils are heading to Art Foundation courses at University of the Arts, London and Arts University, Bournemouth, to international institutions and on degree apprenticeships. We congratulate all our Canfordians on this wonderful set of offers. The range of different courses chosen spans both traditional academic subjects to occupation-related degrees, which illustrates the embodiment of our school vision for each pupil to follow their chosen path ‘to explore, to express and to excel’.An additional ‘well done’ goes to those who have successfully applied to institutions involving a more complex and rigorous application and interview process. Nine pupils have received offers to Oxford and Cambridge, while ten Canfordians have gained places on highly competitive courses to read Medicine (two to Oxbridge) or Veterinary Science.
Oxford: Nathaniel (Medicine), Lucy (Law), Rohan (Economics and Management), Amelia (Classical Archaeology and Ancient History) and Lara Ella (History)
Cambridge: Adaya (HSPS), Qing (Architecture), Daniel (Medicine), Imogen (Classics)
Other Medicine: Orlagh (Aston), Jemima (Cardiff), Celia (Exeter), Gregory (Manchester), Frederick (Plymouth)
Veterinary Science: Honoré (Bristol), Erin (Bristol)
Two Canfordians successfully applied for much sought after Degree Apprenticeships, Merlin with the Dyson Institute and Lili with IBM.
Canford is an official SAT testing centre for US university admissions. Following this separate detailed entry process, three pupils are holding offers for US colleges and three others have been successful with applications to other overseas universities:
Mia (Georgetown, Washington DC), Ethan (UC Santa Barbara, CA), Alex (Haverford, PA), Sienna (Queen’s University, Canada), Hattie (dual program at Sciences Po, Paris and UCL), Tiva (IE University, Madrid) and Kei Ye (Chinese University of Hong Kong - Medicine).
(Pictured are among the 23 pupils awarded places at Oxbridge, for Veterinary Science and Medicine courses and for international universities, which all require an additional application process.)
Head of Careers Michael Doherty commented:
"I am delighted for all Canfordians who have successfully applied for their chosen institutions and courses. They have achieved very impressive outcomes in what continues to be an incredibly competitive higher education admissions process for top universities at home and abroad, alongside creative arts foundation courses and highly sought after degree apprenticeships. It is wonderful to see our pupils exemplifying the school values of courageous attitude and purposeful engagement, following their hearts and not being deterred by the challenging statistics of application/offer rates for the most popular courses and institutions.
I wish them all every success and a reminder that the Careers team are available on results day to offer any further support and guidance as needed and beyond when pupils move on as OCs."
