Congratulations Ryde School Sailors

More incredible achievements for Ryde School Sailors. Fred S and Noah E competed in the RYA Youth Nationals in Weymouth over the Easter break. With seriously tough, windy conditions (25 KTS) both still managed solid results with Fred taking 6th place overall.

Year 8 Ben A and Year 9 Olly M also flew out to Cadiz in Spain for the ILCA 4 European Championships as part of a group of 15 sailors representing Great Britain aged 13-17 with Ben A being the you get competitor in the whole event.

The first three days were Qualification, which were sailed in Levante winds from 25-35 knots, with one day being too windy to sail. These big winds suited Olly as a bigger sailor but not Ben, with the result that Olly qualified for the Silver Fleet and Ben for the Bronze Fleet. The second three days of the Finals were much lighter and Ben achieved 2nd place in one race, landing himself in the top 5 of the Bronze Fleet, and Olly finished in the Silver Fleet.

It was a great practice event for the World Championships in Greece in July, which should be a lighter winds event!

All the boys sailed really well, learnt a lot and made plenty of new friends. “Really outstanding achievements, huge congratulations to all four sailors, really impressive stuff!” - Claudia Manser, Director of Sailing.
