Sixth Formers Raise Over £5,000 For Hospice

Published by Churcher's College on Thursday 26th of October 2023

Sixth Formers Will and George wanted to raise money in aid of Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice, who provided care for a close family friend, Andrew.

They pledged to undertake a year of fundraising and set their sights high, with a target of £5,000. This year has seen them take on the challenge of covering 45kms over the Ten Peaks in the Brecon Beacons, organise and compete in competitions and raffles at local village fairs, and run a local festival along with Andrew’s wife.

With raffles, auction prizes and bespoke t-shits, this in itself helped the boys raise over their target amount. The highlight of their year came on a cold and clear October day in Wiltshire when the boys crammed into a very small plane and headed up into the sky. Attached to their tandem, they jumped out at somewhere over 12,000 feet (apparently leaving the plane was the worst bit), freefalling for some 7,000 feet before parachuting down to terra firma. They loved the experience and were very keen to go straight back up!

Having exceeded their goal, with £5,175 raised to date, they plan to finish the year with a 5k race in full Santa suits! Good luck to both of them and very well done.
