An Evening of Solo Song

Published by Farleigh School on Wednesday 12th of February 2025

The evening concerts in our beautiful Recital Hall always have an atmosphere of their own, and the warmth, appreciation and admiration for all the soloists in this year’s ‘Evening of Solo Song’ was no exception. Singers from Years 5 to 8 rose spectacularly to the occasion, with barely a hint of nerves if ever there were any in the first place. The audience enjoyed listening to a wide range of songs including an hors d’oeuvres of operatic arias by Handel and Caldara, an appetizer of folk song arrangements, classical lieders by Bellini, L’Estrange, Rubbra, Sullivan, Wood and Jenkyns for the main course, and a helping of musical theatre songs by Rodgers, Kern, Menken, Loewe and Lloyd-Webber for dessert.

Scarlett P, Jemima M, Gemma B, Lucy M, Emily H, Tallulah S, Iona G, Ella M, Billy R, Willa F, Emma P, Sofia W, Lottie S, Scarlett K, Jessica P, Isla B, Myra P, Flora B, Martha F and Nina A should all be congratulated for their outstanding performances which demonstrated such maturity and poise, supported by the sympathetic accompaniment of Mrs Rockhill and Mrs Oliver to whom, with Mrs Hickson, we also owe a debt of gratitude for preparing the pupils superbly. A wonderful way to end the first half of term!
