Cross Country Fever

Published by Farleigh School on Wednesday 29th of January 2025

Starting last Thursday when a mixed group of 24 pupils from Years 6-8 braved the beginning of Storm Eowyn to run in the excellent, challenging Pinewood School cross country event. The sight of each child crossing the finish line (some in shoes, some without!) was testament to their grit and perseverance. In the end, the muddy Pinewood Cross Country race wasn’t just about winning; it was about embracing the challenge and pushing through, no matter how many shoes were lost or how many deep puddles were circumnavigated! It was about the joy of running, the thrill of the race, and the memories made. Congratulations to all the pupils who took part.

The next day, 48 runners from Year 8 to Year 8 were selected to take part in the cross country event at Wellington College Prep. What we witnessed was a spectacular display of athleticism, teamwork and school spirit. The sun shone and from the very start, the course was perfectly set and the atmosphere charged with excitement. Teams from several prep schools gathered in force, each one eager to make their mark. Farleigh’s runners were in top form, displaying impressive stamina and tactical racing skills. It didn’t take long for them to prove themselves as the day’s top contenders. In a stunning display of strength, Farleigh claimed two 1st place finishes in different age categories (congratulations Basti H and Jack W), a silver medal, and a bronze (well done Bea T and Florence S). An excellent day of competition and sportsmanship.

Finally, to the main event on Saturday – the annual Farleigh House Cross Country. We were so lucky to be blessed with perfect weather - a rare, golden day that felt like the calm before the storm of competition - all four Houses having created a chant to try to intimidate their opponents before the event! The competition wasn’t just about the victory—it was about the spirit of friendly rivalry, the thrill of competition, and the sense of pride each House and pupil felt as they cheered for their teammates. Congratulations to Kestrels (in yellow) who win the trophy this year, but every runner should be immensely proud of their efforts and the magic memories they have made.
