Windermere Pupils Shine in UKMT Intermediate Maths Challenge

Published by Windermere School on Monday 24th of February 2025

During the final week of January, almost 50 pupils from Years 9, 10 and 11 took part in the UK Mathematics Trust (UKMT) Intermediate Mathematics Challenge. The UKMT challenges test mathematical reasoning, precision of thought and fluency and are designed to really make pupils think about mathematical ideas and concepts in different and more abstract ways.

For many of the pupils this came hot on the heels of their Year 10 and 11 mock exams but, undeterred by this, there were some excellent performances from Windermere School pupils this year, with pupils being awarded a combined 10 Bronze, 3 Silver and 2 Gold certificates. Special commendations go to Jacob and Zara (Year 9), Leon (Year 10) and Billy (Year 11) who also achieved Best in Year certificates for their respective year groups. Billy, in particular, has done remarkably well, qualifying for the Maclaurin Olympiad follow-on round. There are usually fewer than 2000 pupils nationally who reach this standard so Billy is in very elite company!

A huge well done to everyone who took part, we are so inspired by your dedication!
