DofE Bronze Expedition Training Weekend

Published by St Nicholas' School on Friday 2nd of May 2025

Last weekend, our Year 9 pupils embarked on an exciting journey as they took part in their Duke of Edinburgh’s Bronze Award Expedition Training - and what a memorable weekend it turned out to be!

With energy, enthusiasm, and plenty of good humour, the girls tackled a series of fun yet challenging activities designed to build confidence and foster teamwork. Highlights included the inventive “Protect the Egg” task, a creative team-building exercise that tested problem-solving skills, and the ever-popular “Ready, Steady, Cook” challenge, where pupils whipped up their evening meals using only basic ingredients - and a generous helping of imagination!

Alongside the fun, pupils took part in a series of vital training sessions covering key expedition skills such as setting up equipment, administering first aid, following emergency procedures, and planning meals. These sessions ensured the girls were well-prepared for the demands of their upcoming expedition.

On Sunday, the group set off on a 12km navigation walk, putting their map-reading and compass skills to the test. The trek served as the perfect warm-up for their assessed expedition in May and offered a valuable opportunity to apply their training in a real-world setting.

A huge well done to all the pupils involved for demonstrating such impressive teamwork, resilience, and a positive spirit throughout the weekend. We’re incredibly proud of their progress and can’t wait to see them take on their final expedition with confidence!
