Wellington College has continued its strong tradition in schools’ shooting with a triumphant performance at the prestigious Ashburton Shield competition, securing the title for the fifth time since 2012.

The College’s talented team delivered a commanding performance at Bisley, securing the Ashburton Shield in what was another fiercely contested event in the history of the Imperial Meeting. This achievement highlights the depth of talent, discipline, and dedication within the team and continues Wellington’s proud tradition in fullbore rifle shooting.

Led by Captain Tuppy H and Vice Captain Adrian M, Wellington’s Ashburton VIII rose to the challenge on Century Range, mastering the conditions and maintaining their composure to edge ahead of the competition.

First presented in 1861 by Lord Ashburton, the Shield has long been regarded as the pinnacle of schools’ shooting. Initially held at Wimbledon Common, the competition moved to Bisley Camp in 1890, where it has remained ever since. Over more than 160 years, it has brought together schools from across the country, with young shooters competing for one of the most historic trophies in schools’ sport.

The Ashburton Shield is a highlight of the annual Imperial Meeting, hosted by the National Rifle Association, and continues to represent the very best in marksmanship and teamwork among school cadets.

Wellington’s success extended well beyond the Ashburton itself. The College also won the Cadet Fours, and secured second place in both the Cadet Pairs (Open and Closed). The team finished second in the Schools’ Four, and fourth in the Schools’ Pairs.

The team comprised: Yathur A, Vasiliy S, Lucas W, Valentina C, Anton K, Jessie L, Yangyang L, Siena B, Matteo G-O, Chung Hang K, Natalia S S, Fabian R, Ricky C, Alexander C, Sayan F, Julius K, Tuppy H (Captain) and Adrian M (Vice Captain).

Congratulations to the entire team and coaching staff for another unforgettable and historic campaign at Bisley.
