Year 7 | Boarding Experience
Published by Cheam School on Friday 3rd of October 2025
The vast expanse of the Cheam grounds truly comes into its own during boarding hours, when the children are lucky enough to roam to their hearts’ content, having fun and making memories with their friends. Wednesday evening was a perfect example of this, as the Year 7 cohort enjoyed their annual Boarding Experience.
Fuelled by cake and following a briefing session run by Gappers, Gus and Jamo, the children headed to the Cheam Plantation for some serious laser tag fun. The Reds beat the Blues quite convincingly in the first two games. Despite Mr Hutchings’ encouragements and tactical words of advice to his team, Mrs Rowe’s sheer enthusiasm and Mr Miller’s ‘camping’ technique urged their team on to victory.
Following a tasty curry supper (with all the usual trimmings) and some delicious raspberry blondies, we all headed back outside, where the teams changed. This time, the Boys took on the Girls in the area around the formal gardens, under the careful eye of our referee, Mr Curtis.
Another hour of merriment and activity ensued, with plenty of running around, team talk and laughter for children and staff alike. We finally regrouped on the Loggia for a debrief, prizes and applauses.
Showers and PJs awaited upstairs, and so we all headed back inside and up to the dorms. Washed and cosy, the children spent some time enjoying the Boarding Common Room before bedtime.
The children enjoyed a great night’s sleep with their friends and now feel ready for their trip to France after half term.
A fun and successful Boarding Experience for the Year 7 children and staff – well done!
