Last week, Concord was delighted to host a delegation of teachers and government ministers from Malaysia. The visiting group are all educators selected by Malaysia’s Ministry of Education to take part in its GIFT program. All were recipients of awards at Malaysia’s national level Teachers Day celebrations.

GIFT stands for Global Immersion for Future-Ready Teachers and enables top teachers and educational leaders to explore leading schools internationally. Concord is honoured to be one of five leading international schools selected for the GIFT 2025 Programme.

Having visited Concord’s sister school, Concord College International School Malaysia, in Malaysia the previous week a group of eight educators flew straight to the UK to spend four days here on Concord’s campus, immersed in all aspects of school life.

The delegation were able to observe lessons, attend extra and super-curricular activities and spend time on the pastoral and boarding side of the school. A highlight for Concord’s Form 3 students was an activity program run by the visiting teachers, giving the students a chance to take part in cultural activities including batik, jewellery making and games.

Exchange of ideas and experience played a central role in the week, with both visitors and Concord staff presenting about their respective education systems and leadership in education.

On the final day of the visit, the delegation was joined by leaders from the Ministry of Education who lead the program and its role in helping Malaysian educators to feed into the government’s plans for Malaysian education.

Concord’s Principal, Dr Michael Truss, greatly enjoyed meeting the delegation and sharing Concord’s unique environment with them: “It was a great honour for Concord UK to join Concord College International Malaysia in hosting eight of Malaysia’s top educators and two representatives from the Malaysian Ministry of Education for a week as part of the Global Immersion for Future-Ready Teachers programme.

“The teachers’ energy, dedication and very significant abilities were clear throughout their visit, as they interacted with students and staff across the College. It was especially poignant to recognise that our visitors’ outlook on education, always putting the individual students at the centre of everything, aligns so closely with the vision that we share here at Concord.”
