Girls' Hockey Success this Term
Published by Farleigh School on Wednesday 8th of October 2025
As ever, hockey is extremely popular with the girls, who love getting out there and playing matches!
Huge congratulations to the U11A team, who were crowned Hampshire County Champions this week. They played confidently in the group stages but took things up another level in the semi-final against Twyford. An early lead came when Margie P scored a stunning aerial goal on the left post. Twyford fought back hard and equalised from a short corner in the final seconds of the match, taking the game to penalty flicks.
After the first three flicks it was still level, so it went to sudden death. Emilia B made a brilliant save before Isla B calmly slotted home her flick to send Farleigh into the final against KES Prep. The girls rose to the occasion once again, playing superbly to win 3–1 and claim the title of County Champions, an incredible achievement!
In other tournaments, the Farleigh 1st team came 3rd in the County Championships, narrowly losing 1–0 in the semi-final to eventual winners, KES. The goalkeeping from Annabel H was absolutely outstanding and praised by all the other coaches. Farleigh then beat Twyford 2–0 in the 3rd/4th place play-off to take 3rd place out of 16 schools; another fantastic result. And two weeks ago, the 2nds team played brilliantly to finish runners-up in the Embley U13 Hockey Tournament.
The U10A team also had an excellent afternoon at the Charterhouse Tournament. Playing a variety of schools outside our usual circuit, they finished in the top two of their group to reach the Cup competition. After a narrow 1–0 loss to Danes Hill (Surrey), they bounced back to beat Barrow Hills and secure 3rd place overall — a brilliant achievement!
The U12A team have their County Tournament on Thursday, while the U11s are looking forward to the IAPS Tournament on 16th October. We wish them the very best of luck!
Overall, it’s been a brilliant effort across all year groups, with some truly impressive hockey being played. We’re now looking forward to Senior House Hockey for Years 7 & 8 next weekend and to more exciting matches after half-term against Dragon, St Mary’s Calne, Dauntsey’s, Lambrook and Pinewood.
Well done, girls — what a term of hockey so far!
