Year 4 Dive Into Roman Life
Published by Farleigh School on Tuesday 18th of November 2025
Year 4 experienced a full immersion into Roman life during last week’s trip to Bath. They set off bright and early for the stylish city with Georgian architecture and Roman spa origins, counted as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The children were able to walk the original Roman pavements and explore the famed Baths themselves, where the people of Roman Britain went to bathe in the waters of the natural thermal springs, still flowing with hot water to this day. They investigated the hot (caldarium) and cold rooms (frigidarium), and thankfully, no one tried to take a dip in the Great Bath! They also enjoyed learning about the ingenious underfloor heating system that kept the Romans cosy centuries ago.
During the educational workshops, the children examined authentic sources, piecing together clues about daily life in Roman Britain. Creativity flowed as they designed colourful mosaic patterns. The highlight for many was getting hands-on with archaeological digging underground, unearthing history like real experts! It was a memorable day where they truly appreciated the brilliance of Roman engineering, and witnessed incredible pieces of history which are still intact to this day.
