Talk! Kyle Odefey
Published by Hampton School on Tuesday 2nd of December 2025
Hamptonians were treated to a fascinating Talk! in the Hammond Theatre by Kyle Odefey from Synthesia, a leading UK-based company specialising in AI video technology.
The Talk! explored the rapidly evolving world of AI-generated avatars (digital representations that simulate human behaviour) and their potential impact on communication, education and beyond. Mr Odefey demonstrated how AI can create lifelike avatars using just a short video or even a single image, showcasing the remarkable progress in this field. He highlighted both the opportunities and challenges posed by such technology, including ethical considerations and the importance of safeguards like Synthesia’s “3Cs” – Consent, Control and Collaboration.
Pupils learned that the technology promises exciting possibilities, from personalised learning to immersive 3D experiences. However, Mr Odefey also warned of the risks posed by misuse, emphasising the need for vigilance and responsible innovation. The Talk! left Hamptonians inspired and thoughtful about the future of AI and its role in shaping our digital world.
First Year Pupil Julian had this to say after attending the Talk!:
Kyle Odefey filled us with information about how the world of AI is changing rapidly. He showed us a video of “him” talking. He told us that the AI used a 2–5-minute video of him using a speech (made by him) to talk to us. Then at the end of the video, he used another type of newer AI so that all he had to do was take a picture of himself. I learned that every pixel in the clip was all the AI’s work.
