Senior Sports 'Tour of the North'

Published by Farleigh School on Sunday 8th of February 2026

Farleigh pupils, staff and families enjoyed a truly memorable sports tour to Ampleforth, set against the breathtaking backdrop of the North Yorkshire countryside and the magnificent Abbey buildings.

Out on the pitches, and courts, children gave some high-quality performances, bringing home a handful of victories. They also demonstrated strong teamwork, skill, and commitment throughout, as well as sportsmanship and respect. A particular highlight of the tour was the way the entire squad was involved, with every player contributing positively on and off the pitch.

Beyond sport, the tour offered so much more. the children enjoyed fencing, orienteering, field craft, etching, and tour dinners with speeches. Particular highlights included watching the Ampleforth school play, Beauty and the Beast, (made even more special by spotting Farleigh alumni Edward Harvey and Miranda Blake-James performing on stage!). It was a lovely reminder of the long-standing connection between our two schools and inspiring for the pupils to see former Farleigh children so confident and accomplished. We also attended mass in the stunning Abbey Church.

Thank you very much to Ampleforth for hosting us. Our pupils represented Farleigh in a way that is a credit to our community, and the tour will undoubtedly be remembered as a highlight of their prep school years.
