Canford School has celebrated the topping-out of its new Upper Sixth Form residences, marking a significant milestone in the College’s ambitious construction programme. The ceremony signals the beginning of the final phase of the project, which will deliver state-of-the-art accommodation and facilities designed to elevate the Sixth Form experience at Canford.

The development follows the highly successful opening of the College Hub in Spring 2025. Since then, the Hub has become a vibrant centre for Sixth Form life, providing careers and future pathways support, wellbeing services, study spaces, and social areas for all pupils. It also serves as the designated study base for Upper Sixth day pupils.

Located on three sides of a courtyard close to the main Manor House and central academic facilities, including the theatre, library, music school and sports centre, the new College buildings place Sixth Form pupils at the heart of school life. Two new residential wings will complete the U-shaped layout, providing high-quality ensuite boarding accommodation for Upper Sixth pupils.

The project is the result of a strong and collaborative working partnership with Feltham Construction Ltd. Canford’s Estates Team looks forward to completing the scheme in Autumn 2026 and opening inspiring new facilities that will further enrich the Sixth Form journey.

Andrew Bruce, Director of Estates at Canford said,

"This significant development represents the culmination of an eight-year strategic plan to enhance the Canford campus for the benefit of all pupils. Recent improvements include new purpose-built boarding accommodation, a modern library, a dedicated Outdoor Education Centre and range, a new Health Centre, and a refurbished Assembly Hall capable of hosting the entire school community. In addition, the Grade I listed Manor House has been sensitively refurbished and repurposed to house all day houses, alongside new meeting spaces and expanded dining and servery facilities.

Sustainability has been a key focus throughout the programme, with major investments in photovoltaic arrays, and the installation of the school’s first large-scale ground and air source heat pump systems.

With the new Sixth Form facilities now entering their final stages, Canford is set to continue offering an exceptional environment for learning, living and personal development for generations of pupils to come."

Headmaster, Chris Wheeler said,

"It is wonderful to see the building of the College residences reaching its final phase. Hearing the excitement of the architectural team on visiting the Sixth Form Hub buzzing with the energy of its new occupants, was a wonderful reminder that whilst our buildings may be inspiring, schools are all about people. Once completed, the college vision will deliver outstanding accommodation for all Sixth Form pupils to develop ever stronger leadership and independence whilst achieving on every level. Today we don’t just lay the final stone in the roof of a building; we laid the foundations for an innovative future that will see all pupils achieve ever greater things."
