Aysgarth School was delighted to return to Oundle School for a second consecutive year, as pupils participated in a bespoke two-day STEM workshop. This collaboration allowed our children to utilise Oundle’s world-class laboratories, workshops, and studios, offering a broader perspective on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics beyond the Aysgarth curriculum.
The visit commenced with an introduction from our host, Tabitha, followed by an allocation into the boarding houses. This overnight stay offered pupils a genuine taste of the Oundle boarding experience, fostering independence and confidence in a new environment.
The academic programme began with Biology, where pupils investigated animal behaviour through woodlouse mazes. This was followed by an engaging Chemistry session involving chemical reactions and pressure experiments. In Physics, the focus shifted to balance and motion in sport, with pupils demonstrating core strength and exploring gravitational forces through practical exercises.
Following a session on robotics and coding, where pupils experimented with programming units, the children were joined by Oundle sixth formers. These senior students provided mentorship and guided our pupils back to their respective boarding houses for the evening.
The second day focused on practical application and design. In the Design Technology workshop, pupils worked in pairs to construct gliders, culminating in a competitive launch session that tested their engineering and load-bearing designs. The trip concluded at the Cloisters, where the Art and Design department hosted a workshop on traditional printing techniques.
After a final lunch in the Common Room, the group returned to Yorkshire. This visit not only challenged our pupils academically but also strengthened our ties with one of the country’s leading senior schools, providing a wonderful foundation for their future educational journeys.
