Full marks in Art

Concord GCSE Art student Yohana gained full marks in this summer’s exam.

Although she learned that she had a grade 9 for her GCSE Art over the summer it was not until she came back to school to start sixth form that she found out she had scored maximum marks in the GCSE exam, putting her in a small group of the most outstanding Art students nation wide.

Yohana has always enjoyed making, drawing and being creative, she also appreciates a wide range of art herself: ” I don’t actually have a favourite artist, but I have found lost of inspiration in the online content posted by animators. Its such an amazing display of skill that it does nothing but make me want to better my own artistic capabilities.

“I would then say that my favourite genre of art is impressionism. I like more loose expressions of texture and emotion rather than very accurate to image (even though I personally struggle to produce this style of work), although I quite like a lot of baroque pieces too.”

The GCSE art course requires a lot of work and teaches many skills too, Yohana enjoyed learning about art and developing her artistic thinking: “I think the most valuable things I learned during my GCSE art would be both how to work with different mediums, but also perseverance. There were many points in my projects where I just hated it as I was working, only to like it or be satisfied with it by the end. It was very much a mental exercise to push through when I really didn’t want to because I just did not like how it looked then and there. In contrast to this, I also did learn to simply start over if I decided it wasn’t working even after trying, which was genuinely such an emotional rollercoaster of frustration and relief. ”
