"Greater Manchester is a major county in the northwest of England with a rich industrial heritage. The Castlefield conservation area’s 18th-century canal system recalls the city’s days as a textile powerhouse, and visitors can trace this history at the interactive Museum of Science & Industry. The revitalised Salford Quays dockyards now house the Daniel Libeskind-designed Imperial War Museum North and the Lowry cultural centre." Visit Manchester

Greater Manchester is bordered by Merseyside to the west, Cheshire to the south west, Derbyshire to the south, West Yorkshire to the north east and Lancashire to the north.

Greater Manchester is known for its symbol of the worker bee. It was first used during the Industrial Revolution as Manchester grew through mass production. It was thought up in order to symbolise Mancunians’ hard work, with Manchester being the hive of activity during the revolution. Recently, the worker bee became a symbol of solidarity following the 2017 Manchester Arena Bombing, appearing as braffiti and as part of the Manchester Tattoo Appeal.
