Luckley Girls Climbing to New Heights!

Wokingham's very own record-breaking Mountaineer, Bonita Norris, was guest of honour at Luckley House School on Wednesday 16 October.
Bonita, who held the world record, from 2010 to 2012, as the youngest woman to climb Mount Everest at the age of 22, was invited by the all-girls' school in Wokingham to officially open their new Climbing Wall. She gave an awe inspiring talk to the girls about her Everest climb and talked about how important it is to follow your dreams and never give up. She advised the girls to always try new things, because they might discover their hidden talents in something they had never imagined!

Following her talk, Bonita cut the ribbon to declare the wall officially open. A few of the school's bravest girls then took their first tentative steps to climbing the wall, some mastering the challenge quicker than others! Games Captain Katya Dworkin, a seasoned climber, made it look easy, powering up the wall like Spider Woman!

Headmistress Jane Tudor said:

'At Luckley House School we are keen to see the girls pushing the boundaries. The climbing wall is just one aspect of challenge and Bonita's message urging the girls to always take up opportunities was very powerful.'

Bonita Norris added:

'I really hope we will see some future local climbing champions now that Luckley House have such an amazing facility. I told the girls in my speech to use the new wall to challenge themselves and push themselves to learn a new skill, and have lots of fun at the same time. Rock climbing is great for overcoming fear, of problem solving, getting fit and learning to be responsible and trust one another. I would love to see walls like this in every school!'
