Daniel Martlew, in Year 4 at Warwick School, has won the Gold award, in the 9 and under category, of the BBC Radio 2 competition, 500 Words 2014.

Daniel from Hatton, Warwick was shortlisted to the final 25 out of an incredible 118,000 entries in this national competition. Along with all other shortlisted writers, Daniel was invited to the Hay Festival on Friday 30 May where he discovered, live on the Chris Evans Breakfast Show, that he was the winner of his age group. Actor, Hugh Bonneville made the announcement and read Daniel's story 'Lost Underground'.

Daniel was awarded his prize of Chris Evans' height in books, which is quite a pile (at 1.88 metres!) and 500 books for his school library. Daniel then appeared on The One Show that evening, along with other winners and the many celebrities involved in the competition.
