Lucy Walton, a Year 11 pupil at Malvern St James Girls' School, has returned home thrilled and delighted after achieving an incredible 3rd place in the Faldo Series Grand Final (Under 16 section) at The Greenbrier, West Virginia, USA.Eighty three golfers from twenty countries gathered at The Greenbrier for the eighteenth edition of the tournament. Players enjoyed two days of practice whilst spending time with a number of industry experts including Sir Nick Faldo, Fanny Sunesson, Ted Bishop, Faldo's personal coach Keith Wood and professionals from TrackMan and ProGolf Health.
Competitors aged 12 to 21 contested for the title of Faldo Series Champion over 54 holes on the Old White TPC course at The Greenbrier, with the field divided into five age-categories, three boys and two girls.
Lucy commented 'I have had the most amazing week at The Greenbrier. I have learnt so much from Sir Nick Faldo, Fanny Sunesson and Keith Wood. I'm really pleased with the way that I played over the three days of competition. The course was very difficult with so many water hazards and with the weather mainly chilly, it played very long. It was great to share the week with so many international top class players; they helped me to keep calm and enjoy the experience. I would love to qualify for the finals again next year. I'd like to thank my Club, The Worcestershire Golf Club, and County for all their support this year and MSJ for allowing me time off to train and compete.'
