Sibford School has been awarded funding from the British Council to continue its partnership with Mbarara Preparatory School in Western Uganda.

The grant of £1,500 has been given as part of the Connecting Classrooms scheme that provides funding for reciprocal study visits between UK schools and their international partners.

Sibford Head, Michael Goodwin, said: 'It is wonderful that, thanks to this grant, we will be able to continue the links with our Uganda friends.

'We first became involved with Mbarara Preparatory School back in 2005 and the benefit to teachers and pupils at both schools has been incredible. More recently, we have also joined with Mbarara Municipal School, a government funded school in the city that has more than 3,000 pupils and class sizes of around 90 children. This new funding from the British Council will help us to further develop both links.'

Plans are now being made for two teachers from Sibford to visit Uganda in the summer to share best practice. The school will also be hosting a visit from Ugandan teachers.
