It has certainly been a good term for Oakham's hockey players they've made a clean sweep at the county tournaments, and the U13 Boys have reached the National Finals held at the Lee Valley National Hockey Centre.Oakham's Boys Hockey teams have been victorious in the U16, U14 and U13 County Championships, with the U16 and U13 boys, as well as the U13 girls, qualifying for the Midlands finals.
The U13 Boys have not only won the county title, but also won the chance to represent Leicestershire & Rutland in the Midlands finals. Here the team skilfully dispatched local rivals Loughborough Grammar School 2-0 to reach the National Finals, which will be held at the Olympic Park. Despite winning a place to contest the National crown, the team narrowly missed out on becoming Midlands champions due to a challenging final against Bishop Vesey's Grammar School, which eventually came down to penalty strokes.
The U16A Boys Hockey team have remained unbeaten in the Independent Schools Hockey League over the first half of the term and have carried this good form into their Cup matches. The U14A Boys won the county title but narrowly missed out on qualification for the Midlands finals, frustratingly losing out on goal difference.
The U13A girls, meanwhile, narrowly missed out on the county title on goal difference, drawing with Loughborough High School in a thrilling 3-3 encounter. However, the girls do proceed as runners-up to the Midlands finals.
