Oakham’s new Director of Rugby, Zoran Higgins, began the season with a fresh coaching regime, which he brought to life during pre-season training. Zoran succeeds Ian Smith, who has taken on the new role of Director of Coaching at the school. The three-day pre-season training saw Zoran introduce his philosophy and approach to rugby to the school’s senior players. He has ambitious plans for Oakham’s rugby, which he is confident will further enhance the school’s national reputation for developing outstanding players. His plans to develop a school-wide development programme which will allow all players to further improve and enjoy the sport, are already well underway. Zoran joins Oakham with a wealth of coaching experience and playing history (Bath Rugby Club, Richmond Rugby, Staines RFC and London Irish). During his tenure at Hampton School, he led his players to numerous national successes, the most recent being NatWest U18 Cup Quarter Finalists in 2014 & 2015. He has also previously coached at the London Wasps Academy, London Irish and Middlesex RFC, and has developed professional players such as Marland Yarde and Tom Smallbone, to name but a few. Zoran is married with three children, and his family are enjoying living in Rutland after moving from South West London.
