Oakham’s Hockey players are County winners for the sixth year running!

Oakham’s U18 Girls Hockey team have retained their county championship title for an impressive sixth year running. Oakham’s 1st XI won three of their four games in order to retain the County Cup. They won convincingly against Welbeck College (4-0), local rivals Uppingham (3-0), and against the tournament hosts Leicester Grammar (2-0). The last game of the tournament, against Loughborough High School, was a less straightforward encounter, resulting in a 2-1 win for Loughborough. Oakham’s attacking style of play was spoiled by some determined defending and despite turning up the pressure, they weren’t able to convert any chances. The team were still clear winners, thanks to their high goal count throughout the tournament as a whole. “For our players to be crowned County Champions for the sixth year running is a testament to the outstanding quality of Hockey at Oakham,” says Director of Sport Iain Simpson.
